Atlassian Splashes $1bn On Developer ‘Therapist’ Startup DX

Because Jira tickets clearly weren’t enough torture, Atlassian just dropped a cool $1 billion on DX, a start-up that tells devs how productive (or unproductive) they really are.

DX, the self-proclaimed Fitbit-for-coders, will now be folded into Atlassian’s already stacked toolbox—Jira, Bitbucket, Compass, and whatever else makes engineers cry. CEO Mike Cannon-Brookes said 90% of DX users were already Atlassian addicts, so the acquisition is basically like selling beer to people at Oktoberfest.

The move follows Atlassian’s recent $610m shopping spree for The Browser Company (makers of Arc and Dia), proving the Aussie tech giant is on a retail therapy bender. “Using AI is easy, creating value is harder,” Cannon-Brookes preached, while spending like it’s Black Friday.

So brace yourselves: the next time you slack off at work, DX + Jira will know, and they’ll probably make you file a ticket about it.
